Dr. Loganathan Orthopaedic Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for complex trauma services and deals with the management of primary trauma, neglected trauma, complications of primary management of trauma, polytrauma and mass accidents. The Trauma team includes intensivists, orthopaedic surgeons, general surgeons, neurosurgeons and specialised nurses. All members of the Trauma team are trained in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) resulting in patients being efficiently triaged and managed in the emergency department. The Trauma team surgeons and physicians are highly experienced in early resuscitation, emergency management of trauma to all parts of the body and definitive surgical interventions. The anaesthetists and intensivists are specialised in pain relief and administer regional anaesthetic blocks on arrival to control pain.

The 24-hour trauma care facility is manned by trained medical and the paramedical staff and has a state-of-the-art ambulance service with advanced communication systems to allow monitoring of the injured persons from moment of primary contact and during transit to the emergency ward. The trauma transport team is well trained in primary resuscitation at the accident site, safe extrication and transport to the Hospital.

The Orthopedic Trauma Service carries on the tradition of excellence in clinical care to provide comprehensive treatment for all musculoskeletal injuries with a polytrauma care unit with ambulance services and respirators (CCU – critical care unit) around the clock.

A specially designed CCU with Ventilators is a unique feature of this centre for critically ill patients of Polytrauma. Specialist surgeons, Urology, Neurosurgery, Abdominal surgery and Plastic Reconstructive, along with the team of experienced Orthopedic surgeons, Anesthetists, Physiotherapists and paramedic staff provide expert services for multiple injury patients.

The Trauma Service consultants care for patients with recent or acute injuries as well as those who have chronic problems or complications of previous injuries. Treatments are highly individualized and often include operative procedures as well as non-operative care such as splinting, bracing, and casting. High quality systems help stabilize fractures and Digital Image intensifier, confirms perfect fracture fixations.

Rehabilitation after injury is a critical part of the treatment plan. Restoration of function, return to normal activities, and prevention of pain and deformity are our goals as we care for the total patient in a multidisciplinary environment.
